Reflecting on the Camino – The Camino de Santiago is more than just a physical journey—it’s a path of purpose, reflection, and connection. Over the past few days, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of this incredible pilgrimage. Each step along the way has been filled with personal challenges, moving stories, and unforgettable moments. Most importantly, every step has been dedicated to raising awareness and funds for One Woman At A Time, a charity that empowers women in Kenya through education and opportunity.
Walking the Camino has been a journey like no other. It’s not just about covering the kilometres—it’s about slowing down, connecting with yourself, and connecting with the people you meet. This blog captures the final days of my trek, and the deep sense of accomplishment I’ve carried with me ever since.
Day 2: Powerful Stories and Unforgettable Moments
Day 2 of the Camino was nothing short of extraordinary. The day started with a sense of anticipation, knowing that the kilometres ahead would be tough, but also knowing that the experience would be worth it. And what a day it was! Along the path, I came across all sorts of amazing moments. I spotted a snake, took a photo of a grasshopper, and walked past an inspiring “Wall of Wisdom.” But the real highlights were the people and their stories.
The camaraderie between pilgrims on the Camino is something special. We’re all walking for different reasons, but there’s an unspoken connection that brings us together. Every conversation I had felt meaningful. I was moved to tears by one woman’s story. She was walking in honour of a relative who had planned to do the Camino but tragically committed suicide. She was carrying their rucksack and poles, finishing the journey they never could. Her strength and determination left me speechless.
Another pilgrim was walking while battling cancer. Despite the physical challenges, they were fundraising for a hospice that had cared for them. Their courage was inspiring. And I also spent time chatting with a group of farmers who spoke about the changes they’ve experienced due to government policies. Every story carried so much weight, and each one reminded me why we were all walking—for causes that matter.
As the day went on, my feet started to ache, but I felt grateful for having invested in high-quality walking boots. The Vaseline trick I learned before starting the Camino was a lifesaver! I also discovered muscles I didn’t know existed. But more than anything, this journey reminded me of the importance of slowing down. We so often rush through life without taking the time to reflect and reconnect. The Camino gave me that space.
Day 3: Mission Accomplished—67 Kilometres Done!
Day 3 marked the final stretch of my Camino journey. I woke up with sore muscles and tired feet, but I was determined to finish strong. The weather was not on my side—it rained, and at times, the downpour was relentless. But even as the rain soaked through my clothes, my spirit remained unbroken. Every step felt like an achievement.
I completed the 67-kilometre trek with a heart full of pride. Three days of walking through beautiful, yet challenging terrain, meeting incredible people, and hearing their stories. Each step was dedicated to raising awareness for One Woman At A Time and connecting with others who were walking for their own causes. The physical challenges were real, but the mental and emotional rewards were far greater.
The sense of accomplishment I felt when I crossed the finish line was hard to describe. It wasn’t just about finishing the walk—it was about everything I had learned along the way. I had proven to myself that I could take on the challenge. I had met people who inspired me with their strength and resilience. And I had raised awareness for a cause that I believe in so deeply.
This journey has been about more than just the kilometres I walked. It has been a journey of personal growth, of reconnection, and of purpose. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, but even more proud of the lives that will be impacted by the funds raised for One Woman At A Time. The charity’s mission of empowering women through education and opportunity is one that I carry close to my heart. And knowing that my walk will contribute to that mission makes every ache and pain worth it.
The Power of Slowing Down and Being Present
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned on the Camino is the importance of slowing down. In our busy lives, we’re constantly rushing from one task to the next. We rarely take the time to simply be present in the moment. The Camino forces you to do just that. It slows you down—both physically and mentally.
Walking for hours each day, with nothing but your thoughts and the sound of your feet on the path, creates a sense of peace that’s hard to find in the rush of everyday life. I found myself reflecting on everything—from my personal values to the mission of One Woman At A Time, to the work we do at The Wellbeing Farm. This time to reflect and reconnect with myself has been invaluable.
I realised how much I needed this break. Not just from work, but from the constant busyness of life. The Camino gave me space to think, to feel, and to simply exist in the moment. And in doing so, I’ve come away with a renewed sense of purpose. I’m more committed than ever to the work we do at The Wellbeing Farm and to continuing our support of One Woman At A Time.
Returning Home: Full of Pride and Ready for the Next Chapter
As I return home from this incredible journey, I carry with me so many memories, lessons, and connections. I’m heading back to London, feeling happier, prouder, and more fulfilled than ever before. Completing the Camino was about more than just walking 67 kilometres. It was about proving to myself that I could do it. It was about raising awareness for a charity that changes lives. And it was about meeting people whose stories will stay with me forever.
This experience has given me a new perspective on the power of slowing down, on the importance of connection, and on the value of stepping away from the everyday grind. I’ve been reminded of why I do what I do, and why supporting causes like One Woman At A Time matters so much.
As I look ahead, I feel ready for the next chapter. The Camino has left me with a deep sense of accomplishment and a renewed sense of purpose. I’ve reconnected with my own values, and I’m more committed than ever to the work that lies ahead.
This journey may have come to an end, but the lessons I’ve learned and the people I’ve met will stay with me. And the mission of One Woman At A Time continues. Together, we can make a difference—one step at a time.
Moving Forward: The Camino May Be Over, But the Journey Continues
The Camino de Santiago may be behind me, but the journey doesn’t end here. The lessons I’ve learned, the connections I’ve made, and the sense of purpose I’ve found will continue to guide me in the months and years to come.
I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, and I’m excited for what comes next. Whether it’s continuing to raise awareness for One Woman At A Time, or simply carrying forward the lessons of slowing down and being present, I know that this journey has left a lasting impact on me.
